We partnered with Conservation and Carbon company, to measure and  evaluate the inventory of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with the two academies. The inventory quantified the emissions associated with paper consumption, solid waste generation, wastewater generation, use of facilities associated with the course, and ground and air transportation of the participants. The measurement resulted in a total emission of 14 tons of greenhouse gases (8 tons in January and 6 tons in February).

To offset that carbon footprint, we purchased 14 carbon credits, each equivalent to 1 ton, from the “Chocó-Darién Conservation Corridor” project, the first conservation project in the world to generate carbon credits for protecting the forest in a collective territory. The forest conservation activities are managed by COCOMASUR, an association of Afro-Colombian families that received a collective property title in 2005. The project protects 13,465 hectares of rainforest in the Darien region of northwest Colombia, one of the most biologically diverse regions on the planet.
